Seminole County Arrest Records Vs. Criminal Records
Seminole County's arrest and criminal records serve different functions and contain different facts. An arrest record will include the date, place, reason for an arrest and other specifics of a person's apprehension by law enforcement. Since these documents are made during an arrest, they do not show guilt or a conviction. On the other hand, criminal records provide a thorough overview of a person's past legal proceedings, including convictions, penalties, and terminations. They indicate a person was taken to court and was found guilty of the charges brought against them.
How Long Do Arrests Stay on Your Record?
Depending on the offense, an arrest may remain on a person's record for varying lengths. Arrests may also sometimes be permanently recorded on criminal records. Arrests for infractions such as speeding tickets, for instance, may not remain on a person's record for a long time. However, arrests for sexual offences and violent crimes (particularly those carrying a sentence of more than a year in jail) are permanently recorded.
The following arrests may stay on one's file forever:
- Firearm crime
- Drug abuse and possession.
- Child abuse.
- Driving under the influence
- Sexual offenses
- Domestic violence.
